Mist & Fume Collector for Combination Cold Reversing Temper Mill

A prominent USA Steel Mill needed a new mist/fume collector for its combo cold mill exhaust to both meet existing regulations and have the capability to meet upcoming condensable particulate matter (PM) regulations. The plant wanted a partner who could provide a new, fully integrated system that included duct design, fan, exhaust stack and controls.

Monroe Environmental worked closely with plant engineers to design a new system that would fit in place of the existing collector being removed, while allowing for existing ductwork infrastructure to remain in place – saving the plant considerable money on the new installation. Monroe also designed provisions for future equipment needed to meet condensable PM/PM2.5 regulations for the cold mill.

Scope of Supply included:

  • Multi-Stage Mist & Fume Collector, coated steel construction
    • High efficiency filters to meet PM emissions — Filter access/change-out from outside unit with no special tools required
    • Washdown capabilities
  • Structural supports design and supply
  • ID Fan
  • 90 ft. Exhaust Stack
  • PLC Controls with site integration services
  • Condensable PM/PM2.5 removal design provisions
  • Ductwork design and integration

The new system was installed successfully and allowed the plant to meet all required PM regulations. Plant operators noted the ease with which the Monroe filters could be changed versus the old collector.
