Acid and Corrosion Resistant Thermoplastic Lamella Clarifiers for Steel Tube Mill
A large steel tube mill was experiencing issues with a low pH, corrosive stream that was eating through the lamella-style plate clarifiers on its galvanizing line. Monroe Environmental went to the site to consult on possible solutions and determine the most cost-effective path forward.
Monroe offered to replace the deteriorated coated steel clarifiers with custom designed acid/corrosion resistant thermoplastic units. Due to lack of space at the site, Monroe designed for use of the existing structural steel supports, ensuring a low-cost, space efficient replacement with minimal site work required.
Monroe’s scope included:
- (2) Polypropylene Vertical Plate Lamella Clarifiers with integral mixer tanks
- Acid resistant thermoplastic construction
- Included steel support frame and tie-ins to existing plant structural supports
- Custom polypropylene flow splitter box
- Designed to tie into existing building infrastructure and evenly distribute flow to clarifiers
- Custom engineering to retrofit new clarifiers on exact footprint of existing systems
- On-site consultation to ensure seamless integration with existing processes and layout
The retrofit was able to fit perfectly in place of the old clarifiers, saving the mill over $100,000+ on new engineering, as well as concrete, civil, structural, and piping work. The corrosion resistant design of the plastic clarifiers will ensure reliable operation for many years to come.
